- Delete the pale ale malt and flaked barley lines.
- For liquid malt extract: add sugar: Liquid light malt extract, 90.5, 5, 76
- For dry malt extract: add sugar: Dry light malt extract, 90.5, 3.5, 96
- Set the mash efficiency variable to 55% for steeping.

Newcastle Brown Ale is a well-known example of a British brown ale.
The recipe recommends Witbread ale strains from Wyeast (1099) or White Labs (WLP017). Dry yeast possibilities are Mangrove Jack Empire Ale or Fermentis S-04.
